Executive Staff

The day-to-day operations of Farm Safety For Just Kids are accomplished by an office of five. From executive direction to education, research, membership, and marketing.

Executive Director

David brings vast knowledge and experience in the management of not-for-profit associations. Prior to joining Farm Safety For Just Kids he served as President and CEO of the Institute of Management Accountants. He was also previously President and CEO of Farm Credit Services of North Dakota, and has extensive experience in senior management positions with financial institutions.

Shari Burgus
Shari Burgus
Education Director

Shari is the Education Director at Farm Safety For Just Kids. Starting with the organization in 1991, she initiated the first chapter system. She now develops educational material and programs that include brochures, fact sheets, demonstrations, displays, curriculum, activity ideas, lesson plans, and more. Shari has past teaching experience in both middle and high schools in rural and urban settings. She grew up on a typical Iowa row crop and livestock farm outside of Adel, Iowa.

Tracy Schlater
Tracy Schlater
Marketing Director

Tracy became the marketing director at Farm Safety For Just Kids in November 2009. She spent three years as a communications specialist with the Principal Financial Group before joining Farm Safety For Just Kids. Her experience also includes two years as a reporter in the newspaper industry. Her list of achievements includes Iowa Association of Business Communicator awards and an Iowa Newspaper Award for Best Coverage of Agriculture. She has a journalism and mass communications degree from Iowa State University and is a member of the National Agri-Marketing Association.

Traci Tiernan
Traci Tiernan
Marketing Assistant

Traci joined Farm Safety For Just Kids in July 2013 as the new marketing assistant. She graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Agriculture and Life Sciences Education, Communications Option. While at Iowa State, Traci had two internships; one for the Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation and the second for KMR in Carroll, IA. Through these internships and her experiences at Iowa State, she developed a passion for communicating the importance of agriculture.
